What does Recall do?

Recall is a focused audiobook player for the books you already own. While you listen you can tap to highlight any moment, add a note, turn it into a flashcard, and review those cards with spaced repetition — so you keep the parts that matter instead of forgetting most of the book by next week.

How do I import an audiobook?

• Put the DRM-free M4B (or other standard audio file) in iCloud Drive or anywhere the iOS Files app can see it.
• In Recall, tap Import — the toolbar button, or "Import Audiobook" on the empty library screen.
• Pick your file. Recall copies it into the app so it plays offline; your original file is untouched.

Chapters embedded in an M4B are detected automatically. A file without chapters plays as a single chapter.

Want to try it without a file?

On the empty library screen, tap Try a sample audiobook. It imports a short royalty-free sample so you can test highlights, flashcards, review and stats immediately.

Where do my audiobooks and highlights live?

Entirely on your device. Imported files, highlights, notes, cards and playback positions are stored locally — nothing is uploaded. See the Privacy Policy.

Is Recall free?

Completely. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no account, nothing paywalled.

I imported a file but it won't play

Recall plays DRM-free audio only. Files from stores that wrap them in DRM can't be played by any third-party player. Re-import a DRM-free M4B or MP3 — one bad file won't affect the rest of your library.

Captions say they can't be generated

Captions use Apple's on-device speech recognition, which needs a physical iPhone (the Simulator has no speech models) and may need a one-time language model download the first time. Make sure the caption language in Settings matches the language of the book, and give the first chapter a moment to prepare.

How do I get my highlights out?

Open a book's highlights and use the share button to export as an Anki-ready CSV or as Markdown.
